He made the soundtrack to Remember Me, Vampyr and A Plague Tale: Legendary composer Olivier Derivière from Paris is leading us through his work process, his favourite soundtracks and the best ways to involve composers in your game dev workflow.
GamesMarket: Lead us into the interview with a soundtrack: What one music piece of yours are you most proud of and why? Please send a Youtube link with so that we can embed it as well.
Derivière: This is the toughest question as you can’t choose which kids you love the most. I would go with “Remember Me - Nilin the Memory hunter” (quite old but I am in the mood).
I am happy with this one as it was the first time I would record in London and with scoring engineer John Kurlander (who passed away last year). I think this music could only happen in a video game as it is very daring. We recorded a full orchestra and then I manipulated it with post-process effects in order to celebrate the game’s substance: to manipulate an organic form like memory and hack it.
