At least according to what has already been confirmed, Aloy, the main character from Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, will not be playable in Horizon's Hunters Gathering. The new cooperative action game features a selection of hunters with unique abilities and different melee and ranged combat styles. The central element of Horizon's Hunters Gathering is repeatable hunts, in which three hunters always team up in different roles. Between missions, players return to the Hunter Settlement, which serves as a central social hub.

Horizon Hunters Gathering is being developed for PS5 and PC and is designed for cross-play and progress transfer from the outset. According to Sony, players can sign up for a closed beta test at the end of February. The two game modes – Machine Incursion and Cauldron Descent – revealed so far will be tested there.

Guerilla Games, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is part of PlayStation Studios and is known for the Killzone and Horizon games. According to the appendices published in the Sony Group's latest quarterly financial report, Horizon Zero Dawn has sold over 20 million units across all platforms and Horizon Forbidden West has sold over 8.4 million units.

Since 2025, it has also been known that Sony is working on a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, after originally planning a Netflix series. Filming is scheduled to begin this year. As of today, the film is scheduled for release in 2027.
