Hollywood actor Udo Kier, who was born in Cologne, died on Sunday at the age of 81. Kier's partner shared the news with the US industry magazine Variety. Kier's death caused shockwaves not only in the international film industry. Star game designer Hideo Kojima also commented on X, expressing his disbelief: "I’m at a loss for words. It all happened far too suddenly," Kojima wrote.

Kojima and Kier knew each other and wanted to collaborate on Kojima's upcoming horror game OD. "When we met in Milan at the end of September, he told me how much he was looking forward to the shoot starting up again next year. He was full of energy then too, making me laugh with his usual 'Udo-isms'. I still can’t believe this," Kojimas post says.

However, working with Hideo Kojima would not be Kier's first foray into the world of video games. He played “Yuri” in the Command & Conquer games. And in 2022, he lent his voice to the character Erich in Martha is Dead.
