The Travel Mode for Meta Quest 2 and 3 will be released in summer 2024. In collaboration with Lufthansa, Meta has also announced a Mixed Reality variant for selected Lufthansa Allegris Business Class Suite flights.

Mark Zuckerberg has announced a Travel Mode for Meta Quest 2 and 3. In this mode, air travellers can watch movies on a virtual screen, relax or work with games such as Connect Four and Chess, or a meditation app. The feature will be available to Quest users this summer.

Meta is also announcing a new pilot programme with Lufthansa. Together, the two companies will equip selected flights for customers of the new Lufthansa Allegris Business Class Suite with Mixed Reality content from the areas of entertainment, travel, wellness, games and more - tailored for the Quest 3 in travel mode. This is the first time an airline has offered access to Quest 3 headsets in a commercial flight environment.

"The Lufthansa Group has already been using extended reality in training and marketing for some time - and now, during this test case, we are first mover for this innovative entertainment offering. Through the cooperation with Meta, two innovative market leaders can open the next chapter of in-flight entertainment and offer guests completely new experiences," says Björn Becker, Head of Future Intercontinental Experience Lufthansa Group. "Meta Business Partner MSM.digital will create content and provide device setup, distribution, management, and technical support, in close collaboration with Meta and Lufthansa", Meta says.

To try out this Travel Mode, users should select the 'Experimental' section of the settings. They can then switch travel mode on and off via the quick settings.
