Federal funding, dear readers,

remains a recurring topic. On the one hand, because further positive funding decisions continue to come in and projects are being supported. And on the other hand, because this funding is sparking debates and raising questions in political circles in Berlin. A so-called ‘minor parliamentary question’ on games funding was recently tabled by a number of AfD MPs; it was, of course, answered within the prescribed timeframe and yielded only limited new insights. Whether this was down to the questions or the answers is something everyone can interpret for themselves. One thing is clear, however: in the next planned evaluation study of federal funding, the support should at least show positive trends; otherwise, the political climate in Berlin is likely to turn frosty for the games industry – (almost) everyone’s darling.
