Die Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) hat die Preisträger der 5th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards bekannt gegeben. Die Preise wurden im Rahmen des D.I.C.E. Summit im Ballsaal des Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas vergeben.

Toptitel war in diesem Jahr das Xbox-Spiel "Halo: Combat Evolved". Das Team Bungie/Microsoft konnte insgesamt vier Awards einheimsen, darunter die begehrte Auszeichnung "Game Of The Year". Computerspiel des Jahres wurde "Black & White" von Electronic Arts.

"Die Interactive Achievement Awards und der D.I.C.E. Summit unterstützen ganz klar durch die Auszeichnung kreativer Fertigkeiten und neuer Möglichkeiten die künstlerischen Aspekte unserer Industrie", sagte Paul Provenzano, Academy President. "Wir gratulieren allen Finalisten und Gewinnern. Sie haben dazu beigetragen, diesen aufregenden Industriezweig weiter voranzutreiben."

Die Academy vergab insgesamt 29 Auszeichnungen. Ebenfalls ausgezeichnet wurde Will Wright, Mitgründer von Maxis und Erfinder von "Die Sims", der in die Academy Hall of Fame aufgenommen wurde. Der Preis wurde ihm von John Cormack überreicht, der im letzten Jahr diesen Award erhalten hatte.

Neben der gesamten US-Videospielindustrie waren auch Vertreter der Film-, Musik- und Sportbranche auf dem Event vertreten.
