Interview: Ben Lochmann on Accessibility and Visual Clarity in ChromaGun 2
For the release of ChromaGun 2: Dye Hard, we spoke to Pixel Maniacs CEO Benjamin Lochmann about their tremendous colourblind mode and what challenges the visual design of their colour-focused game faced in playtesting.
Benjamin Lochmann is the CEO of Pixel Maniacs, the studio behind ChromaGun 2: Dye Hard.
Benjamin Lochmann is the founder and CEO of Pixel Maniacs, the studio that made ChromaGun, Can't Drive This and now ChromaGun 2: Dye Hard (read our review here). The studio is a distinguished gaming hub in their home of Nuremberg as well, organising the Indie Outpost event series and investing in local studios so they can bring their games to live. We talked to him about one of the best features in their new game ChromaGun 2, a colourblind mode. Which is no small feat for a game in which the main game mechanic relies on colours.

GamesMarket: How did you develop your colour blindness mode? The merging symbols are very clever.
Lochmann: Thanks a lot! We had a colorblind mode in the first ChromaGun, which was really well received: GMTK's Mark Brown featured the first episode of ChromaGun in his video on accessibility, and accessibility expert Ian Hamilton in a GDC talk.
