G2 Esports Raises Millions in Series B Round
The Berlin-based esports organization has secured a seven-figure sum in a recent financing round, supported by both existing and new investors. G2 intends to use the funds to further expand and diversify its operations.
G2 Esports did not disclose the exact amount of the Series B investment, only confirming that it is a seven-figure sum.
The funding comes from existing investors, the company’s own management, and new investors who have taken a stake in the Berlin-based esports organization. Among the named investors are existing backers such as Jens Hilgers, co-founder of Bitkraft and ESL, as well as Al Tylis, a part-owner of Necaxa, Wrexham (Welsh football club), DC United (MLS), and Bluepool, owners of the Brooklyn Nets (NBA) and New York Liberty (WNBA).
New investors include the Wilf family, participating through their investment arm WIDE Ventures. G2 Esports had already established a strategic partnership with the Wilf family in 2023, which facilitated the takeover of Minnesota Rokkr’s slot in the Call of Duty League. Minnesota Rokkr is an esports organization under Version1, owned by the Wilf family. The Wilfs also own the NFL team Minnesota Vikings and the MLS and NWSL teams Orlando City SC.
Other new G2 Esports investors include Gary Vaynerchuk and The Tornante Company, the investment firm of former Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney CEO Michael Eisner. With the fresh capital, G2 Esports aims to expand its business and further diversify its product offerings for fans. This should not only fuel the organization's growth but also enable the formation of teams for new games—though G2 Esports has not disclosed specifics on this front.
"This successful investment round and the addition of our new investors showcases G2’s strength and value as an organisation. This year is our 10th anniversary, and looking back over the last decade, we’ve not only built a globally successful brand with teams that are consistently on top, but also we’ve built a valuable business that’s been profitable for multiple years," comments Alban Dechelotte, CEO of G2 Esports.
And Konrad von Moltke, Principal of WISE Ventures, says: "Since getting to know G2’s management team in early 2023 we have continued to be impressed with their strategic vision, work ethic, operational excellence and communication. We are thrilled to be partnering with G2 on their next stage of growth."
"G2 and Version1 are a natural fit. We are fully invested in the future of esports - our partnership with G2 and our investment in this funding round is a testament to that. We are excited to build on the legacy of Version1, and we can’t wait to bring more championships to G2’s global fanbase," adds Jonathan Wilf, Controlling Owner of Version1.
