The indie store itch.io has introduced a requirement for game developers and asset pack makers to disclose if their products utilise Gen AI content. Users can then filter for Gen AI and Non AI tags separately if they choose.

Indie game online store itch.io has introduced a requirement for developers to disclose if they used Generative AI in the making of a game they upload to the site. The disclosure works via the inclusion of an AI Generated tag that users can then filter for on the store site, including a No AI tag for games not using any.

The disclosure is also needed for asset packs of game dev ressurces, a field that itch.io is particularly strong in. Untagged asset packs that utilise AI content will be blocked from the browse pages of the store after an as of yet undisclosed grace period.
