Microsoft hat sein 5000. Patent in den USA angemeldet. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Technologie, die es Außenstehenden ermöglicht, Gamespartien in Echtzeit via Internet zu beobachten.

Microsoft hat einen Meilenstein in seinem noch jungen Geschäftsfeld der Technologielizenzen gesetzt. Der Software-Gigant, der erst seit Dezember 2003 Technologien, die aus seiner Entwicklungsabteilung stammen, in Lizenz anderen Firmen anbietet, hat das 5000. Patent in den USA angemeldet. Zum Vergleich: IBM verfügt über mehr als 25.000 US-Patente.

Bei dem Jubiläumspatent handelt es sich um eine Technologie, die in der Xbox 360 zum Einsatz kommt. Sie ermöglicht es Internetnutzern, bei einer Spielepartie als passive Beobachter einzusteigen und dabei auch die Kameraperspektive selbst zu wählen. Zum Einsatz kommen soll die Technologie unter anderem bei Xbox Live, dem Online-Spieledienst von und für Microsofts Spielekonsolen.
