Microsoft will sich nun doch im Falle, dass die Produktionskapazitäten in Mexico und Ungarn nicht ausreichen, nach einem Produktionsort für die Xbox in Asien umschauen. Von dort aus soll dann auch der japanische Markt bedient werden.

Hiroshia Ohura, Managing Director Microsoft Japan, sagte der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters in einem Interview, dass Microsoft sich im Falle von Lieferengpässen aus den Produktionsstätten in Mexico und Ungarn nach einem eigenen Standort zur Xbox-Produktion in Asien umschauen werde. Im mexikanischen Guadelajara wird die Xbox für den amerikanischen Markt produziert, im ungarischen Sarvar findet die europäische Produktion statt. Bisher plante Microsoft, Asien und speziell Japan mit Konsolen aus dem mexikanischen Werk zu beliefern. Zur Auslieferungsmenge zum Verkaufsstart in Japan am 22. Februar wollte Ohura erneut keine Angaben machen. Analysten gehen von einer Erstauslieferung von ca. 300.000 Stück aus. Microsoft bekräftigte erneut sein Ziel, bis zum Ende des Geschäftsjahres im Juni weltweit zwischen 4,5 und sechs Millionen Xbox-Konsolen ausliefern zu wollen.
