Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns
One year after the release of Mortal Kombat 1, Warner Bros. Games is releasing the expansion Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns. It includes the next phase of the story mode, which focuses on peace, anarchy and bloody battles, as well as the addition of the Kombat Pack 2, which includes six playable characters.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is the first expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, the latest instalment in the franchise developed by NetherRealm Studios. To date, the game has sold over 4 million copies worldwide. This makes the reboot not quite as successful as the last game in the franchise, Mortal Kombat 11 (2019). That game is the most successful title in the franchise, with more than 15 million copies sold worldwide.
Khaos Reigns expands the story campaign with an all-new cinematic narrative. When a dangerous threat arrives from an alternate timeline, led by the ruthless Titan Havik whose sole mission is to plunge the realms into chaos, Liu Kang must rally his champions and trust his enemies to defeat this grave danger. As with the main game, the whole thing is cinematically staged.
In addition to the cinematic story expansion, new fighters will also be available in Khaos Reigns as it incorporates the Kombat Pack 2 as well. The returning fighters, aka Kombatants, are Noob Saibot, voiced by Kaiji Tang, Cyrax, voiced by Enuka Okuma, and Sektor, voiced by Erika Ishii - all with backstories as part of the re-imagined Mortal Kombat 1 universe.
"As Sub-Zero, Bi-Han was the Lin Kuei's ruthless Grandmaster, but his soul was stolen by Titan Havik to create the perfect henchman, Noob Saibot, who is now dedicated to fomenting anarchy. Born into the Zaki, one of the Lin Kuei's many sub-clans, Cyrax became a martial arts prodigy with an independent streak and untamed desire to serve the clan on her terms, or not at all. Growing up immersed in Lin Kuei culture under the tutelage of her parents, Sektor becomes a master armorer, skilled warrior, and Sub-Zero’s most trusted lieutenant, committed to advancing the clan’s future at all costs." - Warner Bros. Games
The story expansion, along with Noob Saibot, Cyrax and Sektor, will be available on 24 September. The three guest characters will be released after launch, with Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns owners receiving one week of Early Access. They are Ghostface, T-1000 and Conan the Barbarian. Ghostface is the recurring identity worn by antagonists from the Scream film franchise, voiced by Roger L. Jackson. T-1000, the liquid metal-based Terminator, is from Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and features the voice and likeness of actor Robert Patrick. Conan the Barbarian, the warrior from Conan the Barbarian (1982), features the likeness of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Kombat Pack 2 is not available as a standalone character pack.

"With Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, we're looking forward to an exciting second year of content that will continue the cinematic story, add more fighters, and bring back popular game features. The expansion marks the long-awaited return of Animalities, which will be a free content update for all Mortal Kombat 1 players and a token of appreciation for our amazing community." - Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer, NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns will launch digitally on 24 September for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). All pre-orders of Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns will include four new character skins, including Wedding Scorpion, Empress Mileena and classic Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 versions of Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot (available from 24 September). Additionally, Animalities, the fan-favorite finishing moves will be returning as a free content update for all Mortal Kombat 1 owners. Allowing characters to morph into their spirit animal to annihilate defeated opponents. Animalities can be performed by all playable fighters.
Khaos Reigns continues the cinematic story of Mortal Kombat 1, bringing three familiar franchise characters and three well-chosen guest fighters into the bloody arena. Whether tying Kombat Pack 2 to the Khaos Reigns expansion was a good idea remains to be seen.
