Neben den Stars der Musikszene kam auch ein Spielepublisher bei den MTV Video Music Awards zu Ehren. Activision wurde für den Soundtrack von "Tony Hawk's Underground" ausgezeichnet. Dem Spiel wurde der Preis für den besten Soundtrack in einem Videospiel verliehen. Den Award nahmen Skateboardlegende Tony Hawk und Bam Margera, bekannt aus MTV-Shows wie "Jackass" oder "Viva la Bam", entgegen.
