With Netflix Playground, the US streaming service has launched a dedicated app featuring games for children up to the age of 8, which is currently available primarily in English-speaking markets. A global launch is planned for the end of April.
Netflix Playground is now available in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. The global launch of Netflix’s new kids’ app is scheduled for 28 April. It is not yet known to what extent the app will be fully localised by then.
Netflix Playground is set to be a free app for all subscribers, with no adverts or in-app purchases. All content is also available offline. Netflix therefore promotes it as the ideal companion for air travel, for example.
In terms of content, Netflix Playground is aimed at children up to the age of 8 and comprises a collection of mini-games based on entertainment IPs, which is set to be continuously expanded. At launch, the games include Playtime With Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, Storybots, Dr. Seuss’s Horton! and Bad Dinosaurs amongst others.
