The Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg has announced its new funding system for movies and games. From now on, funding decisions will be held by a rotating committee. For games, experts on the committee include Daniel Budiman, Thomas Bedenk, Lena Gieseke, Binh Minh Herbst and more industry veterans from the capital region.

To ensure a transparent award process, the Medienboard is converting its funding procedure to a committee-based model. Starting with the next funding round, industry experts will decide on applications in the areas of development and production for both film funding and new media funding.

Decisions on new media funding will be made per meeting by a rotating six-member committee, which will always include the managing director of the new media division, Helge Jürgens. Other members of the rotating committee include Christian Asanger, Thomas Bedenk, Daniel Budiman, Lena Gieseke, Anke Günther, Binh Minh Herbst, Julia Kratz, Jennifer Mival, Lara Schulze and more.

The first funding meeting with the committee will take place in January 2026. The first and most important points of contact for consultations and funding applications will continue to be the MBB's funding advisors.

Helge Jürgens, Managing Director of New Media Funding: “The interdisciplinary committee for new media funding reflects very well the content focus and the ever-growing intersections of ‘future technologies’. With this expertise from the fields of games, XR, and serial formats, we look forward to continuing to shape the media location in a growth-oriented manner in the future!”

Sarah Duve-Schmid, Managing Director of Film Funding: “We are delighted that we have been able to recruit so many outstanding colleagues from the worlds of film, cinema, and media to support the MBB's funding process! Greater transparency and concentrated expertise in the areas of creativity, financing, and evaluation for the next film and series highlights at Germany's No. 1 film location!”
