RedOctane Games, a newly founded studio comprising Guitar Hero veterans, is attempting to revitalise the rhythm game genre. The company is part of Embracer Freemode.

RedOctane Games, based in Livermore (California), is solely focused on evolving the rhythm game genre. Simon Ebejer heads up the studio. He was the production director on several Guitar Hero titles at Neversoft, later becoming studio head at Vicarious Visions and VP of operations at Blizzard Entertainment. The RedOctane Games team includes the creators and developers who helped to create and scale up Guitar Hero and DJ Hero nearly two decades ago. Charles and Kai Huang will also be joining a special advisory board for the company. They founded the Guitar Hero franchise in 2005. RedOctane Games is a game studio that specialises in creating music and rhythm games, as well as the associated accessories. It is part of Embracer Freemode.

Simon Ebejer, Head of Studio: "Rhythm games are about more than just gameplay they're about feel, flow, and connection to the music and to each other. RedOctane Games is our way of giving back to a genre that means so much to us, while pushing it forward in new and exciting directions."

The team has been busy with pre-production over the past few months and has now officially started work on its debut rhythm-based game, which is expected to be announced later this year.
