All the Announcements From Today's Nintendo Direct
During today's extensive Direct presentation, Nintendo presented a wide range of games from Nintendo and its global publishing and development partners. Among these were new Mario games, specific release dates for many titles, and a few surprises.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto opened the presentation by announcing events to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of Super Mario Bros. in Japan on 13 September 1985. He announced Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Switch, as well as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Also announced were Mario Tennis Fever, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and new multiplayer-focused additions to Super Mario Bros. Wonder for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Alongside today's Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary announcements, Nintendo unveiled first looks at Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and Pokémon Pokopia, as well as new information on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Kirby Air Riders. They also made DLC announcements for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Donkey Kong Bananza.
Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 both feature an improved UI, the option to play with buttons and sticks or motion controls, an in-game music player, new Storybook content, and enhanced resolution. A free update will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2, adding 4K resolution support for both games. Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be available together as Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 in physical form, while each title will be available to download from the Nintendo eShop. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 launches on the Nintendo Switch on 2 October 2025. Two amiibo figures for Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released on 2 April 2026: Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Luma.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on 4 December, alongside the Nintendo Switch version. amiibo figures are also on the way: Samus (Metroid Prime 4: Beyond) and Samus & Vi-O-La (Metroid Prime 4: Beyond) will be available from 6 November, while Sylux (Metroid Prime 4: Beyond) will be released on 4 December alongside the game.
Select games from Nintendo's Virtual Boy stereoscopic 3D system are coming to Nintendo Classics, exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members, on 17 February 2026. Titles such as Mario's Tennis, Galactic Pinball and Teleroboxer will be released over time. The accessory needed to play Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics, as well as a cardboard version, will be available to pre-purchase on the My Nintendo Store in the future.
During today's Nintendo Direct, Capcom announced that Resident Evil Requiem will be released on 27 February 2026, alongside Resident Evil 7 biohazard and Resident Evil Village, for Nintendo Switch 2. The release date for Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection was also announced as 13 March 2026. The Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is also set for release in 2026.
Hades II – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be released digitally on the Nintendo Switch 2 first, followed by the release of Hades II on the Nintendo Switch on 25 September 2025. Physical versions of the game will be available from 20 November. The PC version of Hades II is set to exit Early Access on 25 September 2025.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be released for the Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox on PC on 22 January 2026. The remake trilogy will also be released on the aforementioned platforms, as well as on PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store.
