A new cross-European association for extended reality has been founded that brings private and public ventures together. The Virtual Worlds Association is part of the Virtual Worlds Horizon Europe programme and works with the European Commission to bring together “industry, research, academia, and innovators, to build a pan-European community”.

“The Virtual Worlds Association AISBL is a newly established, member-driven organization promoting, facilitating and carrying out the research, innovation, dissemination and other activities aiming at market, regulatory and societal uptake of Virtual Worlds technology and applications. The Association is engaged with the European Commission into the Co-programmed European partnership Virtual Worlds under the Horizon Europe programme to represent the partners other than the Union”, the self-description reads.

It has been cofounded by 18 organisations, including Fraunhofer, Siemens, SAP and several research hubs and universities from across Europe like Valencia and Poznan.

The association is currently building its membership base and is actively looking for members.
