After a thorough selection process, the institute's shareholders have appointed Çiğdem Uzunoğlu as the new director and managing director. Uzunoğlu most recently served as the head of the Digital Game Culture Foundation (Stiftung Digitale Spielkultur).

Çiğdem Uzunoğlu succeeds Peter Wenzel, who has been serving as the interim director of the Grimme Institute since 1 May 2024. Wenzel will now return to his role as a member of the shareholders' meeting, representing the city of Marl.
