Starting on 1 February, Felix Rentschler will transition from 1. FSV Mainz 05 to the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL; German Football League). As the new Head of Virtual Bundesliga, he will oversee the management of competitions now officially anchored in the DFL statutes.

Rentschler will succeed Jörg Höfklich, who has led the department for many years and was instrumental in developing eSports and eFootball at the DFL. Previously, Rentschler served as Team Leader for Fan Activation and eSports at 1. FSV Mainz 05. In his new role, he will continue to drive the advancement of eSports and eFootball within the association.

“In Felix Rentschler, we are gaining a proven expert. Thanks to his extensive experience in the Virtual Bundesliga, he will provide valuable momentum for the further development of the competition,” says Bastian Zuber, Managing Director of DFL Digital Sports and DFL Director of Digital Business Development.

The DFL has been active in eSports and eFootball since 2012, establishing itself as a pioneer in the football business. In partnership with EA Sports, it became the first professional football league to launch a dedicated competition. According to the DFL, it remains the only professional league competition directly integrated into the EA SPORTS FC game. Furthermore, in 2022, the DFL incorporated virtual competitions into its official statutes.
