Pioneers of Pagonia
The spiritual successor to The Settlers is ready! Pioneers of Pagonia, developed by Envision Entertainment, will leave Early Access on 11 December 2025, after two years.
Since its Early Access launch in December 2023, German developer Envision has made significant expansions to the game. New buildings and units have been added, as well as shared co-op multiplayer, mining with the iconic geologist, and spreading enemies called Scavs. This was followed by the addition of magical units and enemies, and a complete overhaul of the combat system.
This year, the Major Economy Update expanded the core game mechanics surrounding the construction of a Pagonian village. As well as fully equipping and stocking up before conquering the world as before, players can now start with just a few Pagonians and no supplies. They can then gradually develop all resources, goods and buildings as they progress. The tutorial map has also been updated to provide an easy introduction to the new game experience. The development of settlements has also been modified and balanced, with eight new buildings added and a new overview providing players with a summary of their economic progress. Map generation has been further optimised and, in addition to numerous visual enhancements to various landscape types, winding, bold landscapes with steep cliffs have been added.

A few weeks ago, the map editor was released, integrating all community maps into the game and making them selectable in the game menu. This was carried out in collaboration with mod.io. With the jump to version 1.0, the 30-hour-long story campaign is coming to Pioneers of Pagonia. This can be played alone or in shared co-op mode with up to four players. Players must discover why the medieval continent fragmented into thousands of islands and a fog settled over the land. They must also overcome economic and topographical challenges, defeat enemy leaders and reunite the Pagonians. The campaign was supported by German fantasy author Janika Hoffmann, who worked closely with the team to design the campaign concept and dialogue.
"Early Access ultimately worked out as planned for us. We entered with a game that was essentially a rough diamond. It had a lot of great systems and was fun to play, but it also had its rough edges. We used the time to expand the game, polish those areas, and make it much easier for players to understand. We maintained a flexible approach to our roadmap, typically planning only 3-6 months ahead. We had numerous ideas on how to proceed, but we realized that we would achieve the best results by working collaboratively with our community. This greatly influenced our roadmap. Many changes were implemented solely because of community feedback, while other ideas were dropped due to a lack of interest." - Dirk Ringe, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder, Envision Entertainment
