game – The German Games Industry Association has announced its Sales Awards for August 2026. Only one game met the criteria for an award during this period: Pokémon Pokopia.
This is already the second Sales Award for the Switch-2 exclusive Nintendo title: In May 2026, Pokémon Pokopia surpassed the 100,000-unit sales mark in Germany, thereby meeting the criteria for a Gold Award. Three months later, sales in Germany exceeded the 200,000-unit mark, qualifying it for the Platinum Sales Award.
The next higher category would be Double Platinum. To achieve this, Pokémon Pokopia would need to sell a total of 400,000 units in Germany within the first 12 months of release, with physical and digital sales combined. The last Nintendo game to achieve this was Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which received the corresponding award in December 2025. Unlike Pokémon Pokopia, however, the title was not released exclusively for Switch 2 but also for the Switch. The Game Sales Award takes sales across all platforms into account, which is why multi-platform games generally reach higher award tiers more quickly.
Above the Double Platinum category, there is also the Multi-Platinum Award, which requires at least 600,000 units to be sold in Germany within the first 12 months of release. This has only been achieved four times since the start of 2025, namely by Mario Kart World, Battlefield 6, EA Sports FC 26 and Super Mario Party Jamboree.
