Balatro Sells More Than Five Million Copies
Nobody expected such a huge success. Balatro, from solo developer LocalThunk and Playstack, has now sold five million copies - also thanks to numerous award nominations.
Balatro, from developer LocalThunk and publisher Playstack, was one of the biggest surprise hits of last year. The poker roguelike received strong word of mouth and was nominated for major awards, including the Game Awards 2024 and the DICE Awards. The game has now sold over five million copies. Ahead of the Game Awards 2024 on 12 December, the team announced that Balatro had already sold 3.5 million copies. So in less than a month and a half, another 1.5 million have been sold.
The following is written on X about the 5 million milestone: "The last few weeks have been pretty wild. To everyone who picked up Balatro after seeing it at @thegameawards, we hope you're having an amazing time with it! If this is your first time picking up an indie title, try to make it a habit! There's some amazing stuff out there!"
