Sony's Astro Bot has been named Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. The charming 3D platformer also won in three other categories. Three awards went to Balatro and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Melina Juergens won her second award in the Best Performance category for Senua in Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.
The big winner at The Game Awards 2024 was the PlayStation exclusive Astro Bot from Team Asobi and Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was voted Game of the Year, beating Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Metaphor: ReFantazio. The 3D platformer also won three other awards for Best Game Direction, Best Action/Adventure Game and Best Family Game.
Metaphor: ReFantazio from Studio Zero / Atlus won three awards for Best Narrative, Best Art Direction and Best Role-Playing Game. Balatro picked up three awards in the categories of Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game and Best Mobile Game. Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which was nominated seven times, won for Best Score and Best Music. Silent Hill 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which were nominated for five and four awards respectively, went home empty-handed. The audience award went to Game Science's Black Mythos: Wukong, which won Best Action Game too. Unsurprisingly, Grand Theft Auto VI was named Most Anticipated Game.
A look at the two GSA-related nominees: Melina Juergens was honoured for her performance as Senua in Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. Juergens previously won the award for Best Performance in Hellblade in 2017. Closer the Distance by Osmotic Studios from Hamburg, nominated in the Games for Impact category, did not win an award. This award went to Neva by Nomada Studios and Devolver Digital.
