Polaris breaks world record, date set for 2024
More cosplayers together on one stage than ever before - the Polaris Convention 2023 in Hamburg broke a Guinness World Record. It also tripled its visitor count from the year before. Next year, the pop culture fair will take place for the third time from 11 to 13 October.
The second Polaris Convention in Hamburg closes with 27,000 visitors on site, 200,000 stream viewers - and a world record. In cooperation with TikTok, the convention gathered 492 cosplayers in one place on Sunday 15 October. A Guinness World Record jury was present and confirmed the number as the highest ever. In 2013, a crowd of only one less cosplayer had gathered in Tampere, Finland. Polaris has now broken that number. Apart from the world record, the other figures are also impressive: On-site attendance is a whopping three times that of the premiere event in 2022.
"The Polaris Convention has shown impressive growth and attracted visitors from all over Germany and beyond to Hamburg. The orientation as a community convention is well received by exhibitors and participants alike. Gamecity Hamburg congratulates Hamburg Messe and Super Crowd Entertainment on this great success," congratulates Dennis Schoubye, Head of Gamecity Hamburg.
Content creator Jasmin "Gnu" Sibel is also enthusiastic: "For me, it was the first Polaris this year. I really liked the atmosphere and the varied programme. It was a very pleasant fair size. I was able to take time for my community and have a relaxed exchange with other creators and colleagues. I also love the large cosplay area, I think it's cool to admire all the elaborate costumes in the halls."
The organisers are already planning the next edition of the convention, which will take place again in Hamburg in 2024 from 11 to 13 October. Exhibitor registration for Polaris 2024 is also already underway, ticket sales with early bird discounts have begun.
