Reforged Studios, the Malta-based company that recently acquired Headup, has secured a $30 million strategic investment from MEP Capital to speed up its gaming IP platform strategy.
Malta-based Reforged Studios has secured an initial growth investment of $30 million from MEP Capital Management, a New York-based private investment firm specialising in media and entertainment. This investment will accelerate Reforged's strategy of building a platform for video game IP and publishing. Following Reforged's recent acquisition of Headup, the investment provides the capital foundation to scale its broader vision of acquiring, enhancing and extending the lifecycle of gaming properties for a global audience. This partnership positions Reforged Studios to become a consolidator and operator within the independent and mid-market gaming sector.
Peter van der Watt, CEO of Reforged Studios, commented: "Reforged is building a long-term home for exceptional games and the teams behind them. Our focus is not just on acquisition, but on creating a platform that expands the reach of great IP. MEP's deep understanding of media and rights-based businesses makes it a natural partner as we scale this strategy. This investment strengthens our ability to move quickly and support more studios and creators globally."
"Reforged Studios is focused on identifying proven games and studios with strong communities and long-term potential, and applying operational, commercial, and technological expertise to unlock further value," the company says. The acquisition of Headup (Bridge Constructor, Pumpkin Jack, Super Meat Boy 3D, and more) was the first major step in this strategy. Reforged will continue to invest in gaming IP while developing the infrastructure needed to maximise audience reach, monetisation and long-term franchise value.
Jameson Latko of MEP Capital added: "We see strong, enduring value in video game IP and publishing rights, particularly where there is a clear strategy to build upon existing success. Reforged combines disciplined acquisition with a genuine understanding of the gaming ecosystem, and we are excited to support their vision as they expand their platform."
