25 Years of Moorhuhn: The Iconic Game Is Back on Modern Platforms
This week, Higgs Games and Markt+Technik are bringing "Die Original Moorhuhnjagd" back to current platforms - just in time for its 25th anniversary.
On 20 June 2025, "Die Original Moorhuhnjagd" (grouse hunt) will be released digitally for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Android and iOS. This revival of one of Germany's most popular video game classics is being developed by Higgs Games, a Munich-based development studio and publisher specialising in bringing classic video games back to life. The publisher is Markt+Technik Verlag, a publisher of computer and technology books, software and games.
"We didn't want to reinvent the game; rather, we wanted to bring it back exactly as people remember it, quirks and all," explains Jörg-Dieter Leinert, Managing Director of Higgs Games.
The game remains true to the original from 2000 in terms of its graphics, sound and gameplay, which features time limits, limited ammunition and a points system. However, the controls have been tailored to the different platforms (touchscreen, controller or mouse). "It's easy to play but difficult to master," says Christian Braun, Managing Director of Markt+Technik Verlag.
"Die Original Moorhuhnjagd" had a huge impact on the German gaming scene in the early 2000s. What started out as an advertising game quickly became a massive hit in offices, schoolyards, and internet cafés.
