The German games charts have a new number 1, but there should have been a new double top consisting of Star Wars Outlaws and Black Myth: Wukong. However, one company did not submit any data for the chart collection.

August was an exceptionally strong month this year: Star Wars Outlaws and Black Myth: Wukong were two top releases that enjoyed worldwide sales success. This is also reflected in the German games charts for August, although only partially. Only one of the two strong releases can be found at the top of the list. Black Myth: Wukong, from Chinese publisher Game Science, is missing.

The reason for this is simple and shows that the increasing globalisation of the games industry has its pitfalls. Although the global market can be served from any country, it is still important to know and serve the regional structures. This works very well in the area of child protection, where the PEGI and USK systems used in Europe and Germany are recognised worldwide. Market research is a different matter.

Although the European associations have set up Games Sales Data (GSD), which provides an unprecedented overview of physical and digital sales in the multi-country European market, the data collection also relies on the cooperation of the companies. However, as Game Science did not report any sales data for Black Myth: Wukong, the title does not appear in the German charts. So we can only speculate whether Wukong would have come before or after Star Wars Outlaws in Germany. In Europe, the game was ahead of Star Wars Outlaws, at least on the PlayStation Store and therefore only on the PS5 as Sony Interactive Entertainment reported yesterday.
