Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun & Aiko's Choice (Switch 2)
With the release of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Aiko's Choice, two classic stealth strategy games, are now available on the Nintendo Switch 2. These ports are certainly the definitive console editions of both games.
One of the biggest surprises at the February 2026 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase was the announcement of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun for the Nintendo Switch 2, alongside the standalone add-on, Aiko's Choice. This is notable because the original game and the Aiko's Choice add-on were developed by the now-defunct German studio Mimimi Games in 2016 and 2021 respectively. The Nintendo Switch 2 port was developed by Max Stegen (Radioactive Dreams), with hands-on support from Dominik Abé (founder and creative director of Mimimi Games) and close collaboration with the game's publisher, Daedalic Entertainment. "The port was commissioned by Daedalic Entertainment, with a shared focus on preserving the game's original vision and quality standards", said Johannes Roth, Founder and Managing Director of Mimimi Games in an interview with GamesMarkt.
In fact, the Switch 2 version is something of a definitive edition of the game. It has shorter loading times than the other console versions and runs at 1080p and 30fps in handheld mode and 4K and 30fps in TV mode. Unfortunately, however, it doesn't exceed 30fps. While the gamepad controls are reasonably workable, they do require some getting used to. However, it is the Switch 2's mouse support that most closely resembles the original PC controls. Mouse control is particularly advantageous when performing more complex manoeuvres.
"Shadow Tactics remains one of the defining stealth strategy games of its generation, and even after Mimimi Games sadly closed its doors in 2023, the passion for the game never faded. Together with Mimimi's founders, Johannes Roth and Dominik Abé, and our partners, we wanted to make sure this modern classic could continue to reach new players. Nintendo Switch 2 gave us the perfect opportunity to do that. Native mouse support, faster loading times, and the flexibility of seamless handheld and TV play make it a natural fit for the game's tactical, challenging design. We’re proud to bring this modern classic to a new audience in its definitive console edition." - Dominik Heineccius, Marketing Director at Daedalic Entertainment
However, nothing has changed about this excellent real-time stealth tactics game. There is almost no competition in this genre on the Switch 2, after all. Set against the backdrop of Japan's Edo period, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun uses the classic 'Commandos'-style formula and brings it back to modern audiences. Players control a team of specialists, each with their own unique abilities: the ninja Hayato; the sniper Takuma; the trap expert Yuki; the samurai Mugen; and the master of disguise Aiko. To succeed, they must combine their skills with careful planning and precise timing. Each mission is a handcrafted sandbox comprising patrol routes, sightlines and opportunities. Characters can sneak through different areas, distract guards, set traps, poison targets or avoid confrontation entirely. The main game takes around 25 hours to complete, depending on play style, and Aiko’s Choice takes 6–8 hours.
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is available on the Nintendo Switch 2 on 18 March 2026 via the Nintendo eShop. Purchase options include the base game for €39.99/$39.99, the standalone add-on Aiko's Choice for €19.99/$19.99, or the Ultimate Edition bundle for €53.99/$53.99.
Conclusion
This modern stealth strategy classic is great on the Nintendo Switch 2, especially with mouse support.
