For rokaplay, a German game developer and publisher based in Darmstadt that specialises in cozy, family-friendly games, Solarpunk is probably the biggest release to date. Its games are designed to appeal to players of all ages. The company also publishes smaller, unusual projects under its rokaplay select label, such as A Game About Digging A Hole, which became a surprise hit in 2025. But back to Solarpunk, which was added to over a million wishlists on Steam. With over 500,000 demo downloads during Steam Next Fest, the game has managed to build a passionate and loyal community.

Solarpunk is a relaxing survival game set in a technologically advanced world of floating islands. Players can build structures, grow food, craft equipment, and explore distant islands in their own airship, either alone or cooperatively with friends. They can use sunlight and wind to create an energy system and automate tasks such as gathering resources and watering plants, all while constructing a home in the sky.
In the game, players live in harmony with animals. There is no exploitation, only coexistence: For example, pigs will dig up truffles if they are treated well. Growing fruit and vegetables is the main source of food. Solarpunk features a co-op mode, enabling up to four players to embark on an adventure together (cross-play not supported). Players can work together to gather resources, travel to different islands and build beautiful homes.

The game was originally supposed to start in Early Access, but because the complete vision was reached at the beginning of the year, they decided to go for the full release. The game is developed by Cyberwave, a two-person studio, but Mi'pu'mi Games from Austria came on board later in the development process to handle the console port. Alongside rokaplay, Metaroot is acting as co-publisher of the game as well. BXDXO provides support in marketing and PR.
Solarpunk launches on 8 June 2026, on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG.com) as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It's also included in Xbox Game Pass.
