Game MD Felix Falk: 'Brake on Funding' Released
As expected, the German industry association game reacted positively and with relief to the publication of the new call for federal funding. Nevertheless, a combination of tax incentives for games and a funding fund remains the goal.
It did not take long for the game - The German Games Industry Association to respond: "The lifting of the previously strict restrictions finally removes the brakes on games funding and makes the available funding actually usable for companies," says Felix Falk, Managing Director of game, just minutes after the publication of the new call for proposals.
At the same time, however, the association emphasised that further steps were necessary to bring the German games industry to a level playing field in international competition: "This is another important intermediate step towards permanently improving conditions in Germany. The announced increase in the funding budget to the level actually required is just as important as the rapid implementation of the additional tax incentives for games, as set out in the coalition agreement. The combination of funding and tax incentives for games has established itself in successful games locations around the world and is also the right way for Germany to offset the significant cost disadvantages and create more competitive conditions overall," says Falk.
