The suspension of applications for federal funding for games has been lifted. The responsible Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space has published a second call for proposals and modified important regulations. Multi-year projects are once again possible, and the maximum grant amount has been increased.

Just a few weeks before gamescom, there is more good news for the industry: Dorothee Bär's Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMFTR) has published a second call for funding. This means that applications for federal funding for games can be submitted again starting 1 August.

"Games are an important growth and innovation industry for our country. With this new call for funding, we are sending a strong signal for games development. We are once again enabling developers to plan ahead and rely on funding. We are significantly increasing funding to up to eight million euros per project, thereby also enabling large, multi-year projects. I am very confident that the budget will be approved soon – and I hope that new successful games made in Germany will soon demonstrate how strong and creative our scene is. We want to make Germany internationally competitive through reliable funding," says Minister Dorothee Bär.

The second call for funding also implements a number of changes that the industry had been pushing for. For example, the distinction between project sizes has been removed. Funding applications for multi-year projects can now be submitted again. And the maximum grant amount has been significantly increased. It now stands at up to 8 million euros per project.

The funding call now published replaces the previous one published by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, which was responsible at the time. However, the DLR remains responsible for the operational implementation of the project.
