50 participants from 30 different universities and educational institutions from all over Germany came to the 1. Deutschen Fachtagung für Gamedidaktik 2024 (1st German Conference on Game Didactics 2024). For the organisers, it was a success that encourages them to continue.

The 1. Deutschen Fachtagung für Gamedidaktik 2024 (1st German Conference on Game Didactics 2024) was organised by Prof. Stephan Jacob and Prof. Michael Hebel. Around 50 participants from over 30 German educational institutions and universities followed the call and met in Frankfurt on 10 June.

The conference was based on the paper "Fünf Forderungen, um Deutschland zum besten Games-Standort für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Lehre zu machen" (Five demands to make Germany the best location for games in science, research and education) published by game - Verband der deutschen Games-Branche (game - The German Games Association) for gamescom 2023. The conference, supported by game, financed and organised by the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt and co-organised by the University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm, offered a varied and extensive programme.

A central question was addressed in the concluding discussion: Is it useful and necessary to establish an academic association to represent the interests of teachers and institutions in the field of games education and research? According to the organisers, the participants agreed that such an organisation is necessary in the medium term in order to strengthen cooperation, achieve goals, enable funding, manage research funds, develop common standards and increase the visibility of games studies in academic and public perception.
