The fact that Sweden is one of the most important production markets for games in Europe is evident year after year at the Swedish Game Awards. These were presented last weekend at the Södra Theatre in Stockholm. Thanks to the division of the categories into two separate awards, Professional and New Talent, up-and-coming studios took to the stage alongside world-renowned teams.
Among the established developers, Hazelight Studios stood out. The creators of Split Fiction secured the Design Professional category and were also voted Game of the Year in the professional category. Other award winners included Coffee Stain Studios and Machine Games.
In the New Talents category, two studios each received two awards. Botinator by Botanic Games won the Technology New Talent and Design New Talent categories. Entopy by The Lightkeepers impressed in the Visuals New Talent category and was named Game of the Year New Talent.
The Swedish Game Awards gala has been organized by Dataspelsbranschen since 2021. However, the awards themselves have been around since 2002.
