Die GfK rechnet damit, dass die Haushaltsausstattung mit DVD-Playern Ende 2002 von 8,2 Prozent auf über 14 Prozent angesteigen wird.

Ende 2001 stand in jedem zwölften deutschen Haushalt ein DVD-Player (2,7 Mio. Einheiten). Dies geht aus dem "Business Report" des Bundesverbands Audiovisuelle Medien e.V. (BVV) hervor. Hinzu kamen noch circa fünf Mio. Haushalte mit einem PC mit integriertem DVD-Laufwerk. Darüber hinaus waren Ende letzten Jahres 660.000 Haushalte im Besitz einer DVD-abspielfähigen PlayStation 2 von Sony. Bei Videorekordern lag die Haushaltsausstattung kaum verändert bei 72 Prozent. 2001 wurden 2,68 Mio. Geräte verkauft. Ende 2002 soll die Haushaltspenetration bei DVD-Playern zwischen 14,4 und 15,7 Prozent erreicht haben, so die GfK Panel Services Consumer Research. In absoluten Zahlen sind das fünf bis 5,2 Mio. Geräte.
