4.5 million Francs over the next three years: In a timed experiment, the Swiss canton Zurich is now funding games and XR projects in the categories Prototype and Production through Zürcher Filmstiftung.

For the first time ever, the Zurich Movie Foundation (Zürcher Filmstiftung) has started a games funding programme. The initiative is part of an experiment over the next three years and will fund digital games, VR/XR projects and other interactive digital storytelling formats, as well as the ecosystem around them.

An overall budget of 4.5 million Swiss Francs is allocated for the three-year timeframe and can be given away to prototypes as well as production. Formats that strengthen the ecosystem of games can also be funded.

Registration is open from today onwards, first projects can then be submitted from 1 October to 26 November 2025. A meetup with further information will be held on 25 September 2025, 16pm, at Swiss Game Hub Zürich.

The project is led by Oliver Miescher, Head of Digital Culture at the foundation, with Stefan Schmidlin of Insert Coin Studio and University of Fine Arts Zurich as trustee.
