Game Hopes for a Swift Formation of the New Government
Even though games and games funding are not Germany’s most pressing issues after the election, the German games industry hopes the new government will begin its work quickly—especially with the next funding freeze just around the corner.
The funds allocated by the outgoing government are nearly depleted, as shown on a page published by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The main issue is that the provisional 2025 budget includes only a fraction of the funds available in previous years. A funding freeze is therefore only a matter of time, not whether it will happen.
In their joint election programme, the CDU/CSU have expressed support for the creative industries, including the games sector. The same applies to the SPD, the most likely coalition partner. However, until a coalition agreement is reached, rapid implementation remains uncertain.
This is why Felix Falk, Managing Director of Game, is calling for a swift government formation. As requested by GamesMarkt, he states: "We hope a new government will be formed as soon as possible and will take decisive, ambitious action to seize the opportunities ahead. It is crucial to move beyond the current low mood in Germany. Whether in business, culture, or innovation, Germany has far more potential than what is currently being conveyed. With the right framework in place, we in the games industry are ready and committed to making a significant contribution."
