Sony hat eine neue Version der Blue-ray-Disc entwickelt. Diese soll nun 200 GigaByte Daten fassen. Vorerst sei die Disc nur für den professionellen Gebrauch bestimmt; bis 2007 sei eine kommerzielle Variante mit 100 Gbyte geplant. Diese Datenmenge würde zehn Stunde hochauflösender Videos fassen. Damit will man sich von dem Konkurrenten HD-DVD absetzen; diese Discs fassen maximal 30 Gbyte.
