The Rabbit Indie Games Residency 2024
The Rabbit Indie Games Residency returns with teams from Brandenburg and the Global South. During the month-long residency, the 15 selected game developers will be able to work on their games and grow as a team.
The 15 participants for this year's edition of The Rabbit, the indie games residency, have been announced. The month-long residency for independent game developers will take place from 31 October to 28 November 2024 at Coconat in Brandenburg. After sifting through 93 applications, representing nearly 500 possible participants, the final selection has been made.
The selected teams are Aldamami with Bloodletter (Berlin), Deadly Crow Games with Mutter (Chile), Chewa with The Masquerade (Berlin), Tiny Baby Crown with Dungeon Crawler-Daycare Dungeon (South Africa), Stoked Sloth with Driftwood (Berlin) and Juju Games with Vodou - a space odyssey (Nigeria). The participants were announced at the MBB Pink Breakfast x A MAZE. BERLIN x gamescom. GamesMarkt was also on site.
This year, The Rabbit received more than twice as many applications as in the first two years combined. The selection of 15 participants from seven teams - 50% local and 50% international - was made by a jury consisting of Mascha Camino (Guerrilla Games, Amsterdam), Mfon Enoh (Dojo Talent, Nigeria), Dr. Kenneth Norwood (University Lecturer and Freelance Writer, Berlin), Josh Hollendonner (Indie game developer - The Rabbit alumni from 2023, Austria) and Tim Ahlert (Headup Games, Düren). The selected teams all demonstrated a commitment to diversity. Criteria included gender diversity as well as studio and game values.
During the month-long residency, the 15 game developers will be able to work on their games, grow as a team, learn from experts and share knowledge. They will also take part in Berlin's Games Ground. Supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the full residency programme includes a game-making workspace, workshops, coaching sessions, excursions & team-building activities, and networking & pitching events.
Julianne Becker - Co-founder of Coconat and initiator of the residency, and Ruth Lemmen - Program Director of The Rabbit, are positively overwhelmed by the submissions received: "This is the third edition of The Rabbit, and it was our explicit goal to have a team from the Global South participating. We activated our existing networks and received the whole world, which makes us proud and very grateful to all those who supported us. We very much appreciated and valued each and every single application we received - so many fantastic teams and great projects. Our esteemed jury had a tough job while choosing the participants for our residency."
