The European Audiovisual Observatory, a body of the Council of Europe, has for the first time released a massive report on the European games industry's regulatory and market challenges. It can be accessed for free.

The European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO), part of the Council of Europe and fact finding body about European media, has for the first time released a report about the video game industry on the continent.

The 160 page report titled “Legal challenges and market dynamics in the video games sector” is analysing market dynamics, major tech developments and regulatory challenges for the games industry. It has been made in cooperation with industry professionals, among them for example Thierry Baujard from SpielFabrique and Linda Schlegel of the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt.

The EAO comes to many the same conclusions as the European Union, from which the Council of Europe is a separate entity. The database however remains related. The report identifies player protection as a significant challenge in the coming years, not least from a legal standpoints. Accessibility and inclusion in gaming also play a big role.

The full report can be downloaded here.
