Just Dance 2025 & Just Dance VR
Not only is Just Dance 2025 Edition building on the existing platform of songs from the 2023 and 2024 Editions, Ubisoft is also bringing the first VR title of the series, Welcome to Dancity, out at the same time.
There are few stables in the games publication landscapes as consistent as the Just Dance series. Not just does the series release an updated entry every year, each with a new catalogue of songs, some quality of life changes and new functions — The online subscription service of the series, Just Dance+, is also compatible with each new entry since the 2023 edition. Players who have Just Dance 2023 Edition, 2024 Edition and 2025 Edition will have all their content displayed together in one hub, avoiding the typical sequel problem of content missing at the start of a new game cycle. Brand new content is of course provided as well: 40 new songs by ranging artists from Green Day to Ariana Grande. Six people can dance together, taking different roles in the performance from main stager to background dancer, and compare their high scores after each performance.
Equally important for many people is the inclusion of Workout Mode, again a stable in the series. Special dance routines that include more explosive movements and adapted moves from aerobics, Yoga and so on as well as a calories tracker put Just Dance 2025 into the field of workout games, enriching a genre full of boxing and squatting with dancing.
This year however, Ubisoft doesn‘t only bring the regular yearly update to the substantial fanbase of Just Dance. With a new title, the game series takes the next logical step, from swinging a Joy-Con into VR movement. Just Dance VR: Welcome to Dancity will release for Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro and include 25 songs danceable in virtual reality. Apart from the obvious immersion, the title also brings two hand scoring for the first time, setting it apart from the one hand scoring system of the main series. Six players can dance together in the 3D realms of Dancity. For dancers who are into customisation, the game features a selfie-to-3D-avatar system, interchangable clothing styles as well as a customisable apartment — all almost logical additions in the inhabitable VR space of the spin-off title that underline the social aspect of the series. Owing to the different technical base of the move recognition, Welcome to Dancity isn't compatible with the Just Dance+ service. Just Dance 2025, however includes a month of subscription for the content collection.
Just Dance 2025 Edition and Just Dance VR both release on 15 October 2024.
Not only the next entry, but also the next (techno-)logical step for dance simulations.
