GamesMarket: Lead us into the interview with a soundtrack: What one music piece of yours are you most proud of and why?
Akira Yamaoka: This is always a difficult question because every piece reflects a different period of my life and creative development.
If I had to choose one, I would probably select "Promise (Reprise)" from Silent Hill 2. It is a piece that many people connect with emotionally, and I feel it represents an important balance between melody, atmosphere, and storytelling. Even after many years, people continue to discover their own meanings in it, which is one of the greatest compliments a composer can receive.
