A milestone a company could certainly do without, dear readers,

is 45 million monthly active users in the EU. Don’t get me wrong, that’s an outstanding reach, but it’s also precisely the threshold at which a digital platform, by definition, becomes a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) under the Digital Service Act (DSA). And that comes with significant regulatory requirements, at least for the operator.

These are requirements that Roblox will likely be the first game to have to deal with soon. In any case, a spokesperson for the EU Commission has confirmed that officials in Brussels are aware that Roblox, like ChatGPT, has, according to its own reports, crossed this threshold. How and when the classification as a VLOP will take place remains to be seen. The only certainty is that Roblox must prepare to come under regulatory scrutiny. Otherwise, it faces the threat of hefty fines, and the VLOP milestone will turn into a flop.

Here are the news of the day!
