42 Bits Entertainment and Aerosoft Launch Fata Deum - The God Sim
Today, publisher Aerosoft and developer 42 Bits Entertainment are releasing Fata Deum - The God Sim in Early Access. The game, which aims to restore the god game genre to its former glory, is on over 250,000 wish lists.
Fata Deum, the god simulator from 42 Bits Entertainment and Aerosoft, is launching on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store for PC today (€29.99 with a 20% launch discount). The game, which draws from a largely underrepresented genre, is already on over 250,000 wishlists.
"Launching into Early Access is only the next step in the game's journey," said Christoph Schulze of 42 Bits Entertainment. "Having set upon the task to revive the god game genre, we know that a great game requires more than nostalgia, but also listening, experimenting, and creating together with our players, to whom Fata Deum matters most. Together, we aim to make Fata Deum the best god game it can be, for generations to come!"
The game, developed by 42 Bits Entertainment in Jüchen-Gierath (North Rhine-Westphalia), began life as a one-man project in 2018. It received funding from the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia's local government (Film- und Medienstiftung NRW) to create an initial prototype. With this support, Schulze assembled a team of game developers and secured further funding from Film- und Medienstiftung NRW to continue development on a larger scale. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020, the game's popularity grew steadily, and the publisher Hooded Horse joined the project. In mid-2025, Aerosoft came on board as the new publisher. The game is now published by Aerosoft under its Aerosoft Move label.
The developers plan to keep the game in Early Access for at least a year, though this may change depending on player feedback and support. Since the Kickstarter campaign, which saw 1,451 backers contribute €59,258 in May 2020 to make this project a reality, the team has prioritised close dialogue with the community. It is likely that the price will increase during the Early Access phase as additional content and features are added.
Drawing inspiration from classic god games (Populous or Black & White), Fata Deum gives players the power to command a living world that responds to their every mood and decision. Players must gain the inhabitants' influence. Aerosoft: "The strength of your power comes from the number of followers you inspire, so whether good or bad, rule with strategy and grow your following. The mortals of your world will react to your presence, sometimes with devotion, and in other times with fear, with the world itself shifting with your actions; growing bright and bountiful under a benevolent hand or dark and corrupted under tyranny."
The game is divided into day and night cycles. During the day, players can influence mortals directly. However, the townsfolk still have their own free will and may revolt or lose faith, choosing to worship other gods instead. During the night, players can plan the growth of settlements and inspire mortals in their dreams to build temples, farms and mills, or to sabotage rival villages.
