Wooga breaks the billion dollar sales barrier with June's Journey
Six years after its release, the hidden object detective game June's Journey has broken the one billion dollar sales barrier. Berlin-based Wooga is delighted with the success and feels validated in its strategy.
Berlin-based studio Wooga has surpassed one billion dollars in sales with its hidden object detective game June's Journey. The revenue refers to all gross revenues from in-app purchases and advertising since launch. The game is available free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Only one other mobile game from Germany has reached this milestone to date, namely "Forge of Empires" by InnoGames, but it took InnoGames eleven years to reach the billion euro revenue mark, and that was in dollars.
June's Journey is particularly popular with an older, female target group. 90 per cent of players are female, most of them over 55. Wooga, which is part of Playtika, also listens to user feedback, offering new content on a weekly basis and continually developing social features. For example, Club Mysteries, where players can work together as a group to solve puzzles.
"Today we are celebrating an extraordinary milestone that demonstrates the importance of casual gaming," said Nai Chang, Managing Director of Wooga. "Almost six years ago, we focused entirely on story-driven casual games. It was a real statement in the gaming industry at the time. Today, we are one of the leading players in this segment and enjoy worldwide popularity thanks to June's Journey. Our exceptionally diverse teams play a key role in this success. We firmly believe that it is only when different perspectives come together that game content can be created that inspires a large number of players every day.
