Mit Lions Gate Entertainment hat sich das erste US-Studio außerhalb Sonys Filmsparte dazu entschlossen, das auf der PlayStation Portable (PSP) abspielbare Format Universal Media Disk (UMD) zu unterstützen.

Das Indie-Studio Lions Gate Entertainment hat einige Filmtitel für das auf der PlayStation Portable (PSP) abspielbare Format Universal Media Disk (UMD) angekündigt. Informationen des Wall Street Journal zufolge, sollen u.a. "Open Water", "The Punisher", "Rambo" und "Total Recall" als Mini-DVD auf den Markt kommen. Der Preis liegt Unternehmensangaben zufolge im Bereich von herkömmlichen DVDs. Damit ist Lions Gate das erste Studio, das neben Sonys Filmsparte das neue Format unterstützt. Sony hat zum Launch der PSP am 24. März bereits mehrere Titel, darunter "Spider-Man 2" und "Hellboy", als UMD angekündigt.
