GamesMarket Daily – 30 Oct 26: Softgames, ESL One, Spain, The Duskbloods, PUBG x Netflix, Browser-based Gaming
Once written off, browser-based gaming is regaining market share, partly because it does not have to contend with the hurdles posed by app stores. Meanwhile, Softgames is celebrating its anniversary and Spain’s trade associations are setting out their demands for the next government.
An election is always a good opportunity to lobby for change, dear readers,
and the Spanish games associations have taken it. While Spanish initiatives in the political apparatus of the EU have always been at the forefront when it came to games and culture, the Spanish market itself has many of the same problems in establishing national aid for game production companies as other markets in the union. Just like in Germany for example, the industry is scrambling for tax credits. Even worse than in Germany is the funding and aid situation for emerging studios. With the games industry probably not at the forefront of many politician’s minds in Spain after the way the snap election was called and the horrible train crash just this week, AEVI and DEV have probably done well to remind the political staff of the key position the Spanish cultural industry takes in the country.
Here are the news of the day!
