Gunzilla Games Secures 30 Million Dollar Funding
In the run-up to the launch of the battle royale shooter Off the Grid and the blockchain platform Gunz, Gunzilla Games has secured 30 million dollars in fresh capital. The German-Ukrainian studio raised a third, 10 million dollars, by issuing tokens.
CoinFund and Avalanche's Blizzard Fund are leading the current investment round. However, Republic Capital, Morningstar Ventures and other investors have also participated. Gunzilla Games is a Ukrainian-German company with offices in Kyiv, Frankfurt and London. It was founded by former Crytek employees, in particular of the former Crytek studio in Ukraine.
"With the forthcoming launch of Off The Grid and Gunz to the public, we are not just advancing towards a new horizon in AAA gaming but also establishing a new standard in the blockchain space. This evolution is supported by the invaluable backing of our funding partners, empowering us to deliver a AAA gaming experience which is set to exceed gamers' expectations and enriches their engagement with the game universe by incorporating the decentralised community-driven in-game economy.", co-founder an CEO of Gunzilla Games, Vlad Korolov, says.
Gunzilla Games, which was founded in 2020 (in German) by Korolov together with German Alex Zoll, who led the Crytek studio in Kyiv during the development of "Warface", and screenwriter, producer and visual effects artist Neill Blomkamp, had already announced (in German) the battle royale shooter Off the Grid in 2022. A short time later, the company secured $46 million (in German) in capital in a funding round, which went towards the development of the game as well as the creation of its own blockchain platform. The platform, called Gunz, was launched in 2023 (in German) as the Avalanche subnet and will be marketed as a white label to other studios to secure legal ownership of in-game items. According to current plans, both the game Off the Grid and the Gunz platform will be fully launched in 2024.
