The reintroduced Games Department appears for the first time in a new organizational chart from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. It is docked in the Strategies and Policy Issues division, which is headed by Dr. Effrosyni Chelioti and reports to State Secretary Dr. Marcus Player. The position of department head is currently still vacant.

It was the first promise Dorothee Bär made as the newly appointed Federal Minister of Research, Technology and Space and head of the games industry as part of the Deutscher Computerspielpreis (DCP; German Computer Game Award): to rebuild a dedicated games department at the ministry level. Now, the new department appears for the first time in an updated organizational chart of the ministry.

The official reference number of the games division is therefore S13. It is thus assigned to the Strategies and Policy Issues Division, which is headed by Dr. Effrosyni Chelioti. This division in turn falls under the responsibility of State Secretary Dr. Markus Pleyer, who is also in charge of the Central Division, the International and European Affairs Division, and the Space and Security Division.

As the State Secretary responsible for games, Pleyer is one of the people who will represent the Minister at gaming events such as the DCP or the opening of gamescom if she is unable to attend.

However, one position of considerable interest to the industry remains vacant: the organizational chart does not yet show a head of the games department who would be the primary contact for the games industry at the working level.
