Sony Interactive Entertainment Partially Raising PlayStation 5 Prices in EMEA

Normally, the prices of consoles go down after some time on the market. However, the economic conditions, including inflation, are also turning the gaming world upside down. In EMEA, the recommended retail price of the PS5 Digital Edition is going up with immediate effect.

There will be no change to the recommended price for the standard PlayStation 5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, at least not in Europe and the UK. In Australia and New Zealand, however, these models are also affected by a price increase. There, Sony Interactive Entertainment recommends selling a PS5 with a disc drive for 829.95 Australian dollars or 949.95 New Zealand dollars. The recommended retail price of the Digital Edition is 749.95 Australian dollars or 859.95 New Zealand dollars.

In continental Europe, the price of the PS5 Digital Edition will rise to 499.99 euros. In the UK, the recommended retail price is now £429.99. The increased recommended retail prices are valid immediately. It is unclear whether retailers will pass these on immediately.

According to Sony Interactive Entertainment, the price increases are due to a "challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates". SIE said that prices in other, not explicitly mentioned countries in the EMEA region, especially in the MENA region, might also be adjusted.

Alongside the price increase for the Digital Edition, SIE also announced a price reduction for the PS5 external hard drive. The recommended retail price for this will be reduced to €79.99, £69.99, A$124.95 and NZ$139.95.
